Most travelers from the USA are not allowed to enter Japan.

Most international travelers are not allowed to enter Japan if they have been in a selected country in the past 14 days.
Re-entry permission candidates:
-Holders of permanent residency permits (eijusha) with a re-entry permit or re-entry confirmation letter;
-Holders of long-term residence permits (teijusha) with a re-entry permit or re-entry confirmation letter;
-Spouses or children of permanent residents (eijusha no haigusha-to);
-Direct relatives of Japanese nationals;
-Foreign residents (permanent resident, spouse or child of Japanese national, spouse or child of permanent resident, and long-term resident) who left Japan to visit a country or region before it was added to Japan’s entry ban list as long as they present the Re-entry Confirmation Letter and present a certificate of negative test result within 72 hours of the departure time of the flight.
-US military members and US personnel with SOFA status can enter but are not permitted to use public transportation from the initial point of entry to Japan, including domestic air travel. Second, they need to do 14 days of quarantine under US control
-Non-Japanese nationals who need to move to Japan to study, work or join family (subject to necessary visa requirements)
-Non-Japanese nationals wishing to visit for short-term business purposes (subject to necessary visa requirements)

Covid-19 infection is a low risk in Japan.

Japan has 5,227 active infections, equivilant to one person infected in every 24,175 people.

There is a lower percentage of active infections in Japan than in the USA.

Mandatory Covid-19 test upon arrival.

Travelers are required to undergo a PCR COVID-19 test on arrival if they have been in a selected country in the past 14 days.
